Notes for Rebecca Lorene Dayhoff

Obit
Rebecca Lorene (Dayhoff) Smith passed away in her home, early in the morning of May 29, 2018 at the age of 61. She was held by her husband of 44 years, James H. Smith Jr, and surround by her children local to the area.

Rebecca was born in Terre Haute, Indiana on August 25, 1956 to Forrest Wayne Dayhoff and Shirley G. Reel. As the 2nd and middle child to her parents, her early life was filled with middle seat car trips, as her parents took her and her siblings around the country to explore National Landmarks, and to do anything John Wayne would do. One of her fondest trips was seeing Mount Rushmore, and the hippies of San Francisco. Ultimately, they would leave their home in Terre Haute and settle in the Sacramento, California area.

At the age of 13, her family joined the L.D.S church. It is there that she met her husband, James, and they spent the next 46 years together, creating a loving family filled with 7 boys and 2 girls, J. Alexander, J. Elias, Rachel Nicole (Hardie), J. Caleb, J. Michaelwayne, Jenny C. (Long), J. Ian Royce, J. Cedric, and J. Gaelan Mattingly. Her family has blessed her life with additional Sons, and Daughter’s through marriage, and 15 grandchildren to date.

Rebecca enjoyed being a mom, more than anything, but as required for one’s own sanity, she would volunteer for her church, primarily working with the youth. Later in life she took a job as a Kitchen Manager for Farmington Public Schools where after 16 years, retired in the fall of 2016. Rebecca loved to be able to spend time with her grandchildren and often would steal them for weeks during the year, to properly spoil them. She also had a soft spot for animals and often allowed her children to bring home strays, children and animals alike.

She is following her Mother and Father in death, as well as her Aunts and Grandparents whom she adored. Rebecca is leaving behind two very sad puppies, her husband, devoted children and extended family, to join them in causing mischief above.

Her family wishes to celebrate her life in the following weeks, with a memorial service to be held in June to fulfill her wish of having a big Birthday bash in honor of all her of her birthdays past, and the ones that she will miss.

Rebecca will be placed alongside her mother in Livonia, Michigan at Mt. Hope Cemetery at a later date. No viewing as per her wishes.

Remember her as you loved her, not as she suffered.
