HALFMOON Catherine E. Kate Shanahan, 82, of the D&R Village died suddenly on Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at her home following a lengthy illness. Catherine was born in Cape Vincent, N.Y. on August 2, 1921, the first child of Clarence and Margaret Bisnett. Shortly thereafter, the family moved to Watertown, N.Y. where she attended city parochial and public schools. She was a longtime employee of the city's Sears Roebuck store, serving the catalog section for some 30 years. She left Sears employ when she married Mr. Raymond F. Shanahan on November 24, 1977 and moved to their new home in D&R Village. Catherine enjoyed golfing and was a former member of Northway Heights Golf Club for many years. She was currently a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Mohawk Post #1450 in Halfmoon. She was a longtime rabid Yankee fan and a communicant of St. Edward the Confessor Church. Survivors in addition to her husband include a son, Steven Minkler of Watertown, N.Y.; a daughter, Constance Connie LaRose of Statesville, N.C.; a stepson, Mark C. Shanahan of Clifton Park and a stepdaughter, Kathleen Valentino of Glenmont. Several grandchildren and step-grandchildren also survive her. Funeral will be held Friday morning at 10:45 from the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt. 9 in Clifton Park thence to St. Edward the Confessor Church in Clifton Park where at 11:30 a.m. the Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours will be from 4-7 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Road, Clifton Park, NY 12065.
